“I still remember the first time I prayed a rosary as I was becoming Catholic. I prayed slowly and with great attention because I felt deeply that I was speaking to someone like the British Queen Elizabeth (or so I imagined) but even greater, and how great was the consolation! Receiving a scapular has been a fulfillment of that devotion to Our Lady. The scapular has been for me fundamentally about relationships—with Our Lady, St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross as well as now with other Carmelites—and a humble petition to be laid as a living stone upon their foundation.”
